Bring Me to Life is the 2d track and first single from Evanescence's debut anthology, Fallen. Amy Lee became inspired to write the vocal after an incident that occurred while she was sitting in a restaurant.
Amy said in a VH1 interview what the song is about: "Open-mindedness. It'south about waking up to all the things you lot've been missing for so long. One solar day someone said something that fabricated my eye race for a second and I realized that for months I'd been numb, just going through the motions of life."[2]

In an October 2006 interview with Blender, Amy said she wrote "Bring Me to Life" most her long time friend (now husband), Josh Hartzler.[5]
It was the second unmarried off of the Daredevil soundtrack (Fuel'south "Won't Back Down" was kickoff) and the beginning unmarried off of Fallen. "Bring Me to Life" became the #one popular song in the country the week of June 13, 2003, only to be replaced a week later on by Kelly Clarkson'due south "Miss Independent". The song features Paul McCoy, the lead singer of 12 Stones.
The song was originally intended to exist without the male person vocals when Wind-up felt that it was best to put a male vocalist into the song for the Daredevil soundtrack.[6] Amy had to write additional lyrics especially for the rap part.[7] The version that featured Paul McCoy stuck.
The first of the orchestra intro for the song (Live In Cologne) is the part where Paul starts singing: "All of this time I can't believe..." and Amy sings: "I've been sleeping..." in an instrumental version. After this part follows by Amy singing: "Bring Me to Life". This intro can also be heard in the background of the Fallen version of the song.
The sample used throughout the demo versions and some alive versions of the song is "Riff 01" from Sony'due south Futurist Drum 'n' Bass loop series. The sample was replaced with a piano playing a variation of the same note sequence in the Fallen version.
"Bring Me to Life" was played on the band'south Fallen and The Open Door Tours.[8] [9] It was performed at the Legends & Lyrics concert in Nashville on February 23, 2009,[10] followed by the operation at the band's secret New York gig on November 4 in the same twelvemonth.[eleven] [12] Information technology was later played as part of Evanescence's Evanescence Tour in 2011-12.[thirteen] [14]
Amy said in a Capital FM Radio Interview on June 11, 2003 that they recorded about five different demos, one of which had different lyrics:

But um, then we had a really big trouble with the chorus, the chorus wouldn't come together. We wrote probably um five different chorus and recorded them, yous know equally demos. And uh, I still remember one of them, information technology's funny information technology's like - how does it become? Ben: Can't tell y'all that. Amy: I could, I don't intendance. Wake me from dreaming, save me from nothing, bring me to life, *bum* *bum* *bum* *bum*. Ben: Yeah, information technology was, I mean, it took a while to get at that place but. The band performed the vocal with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra at the 18th Nobel Peace Prize concert on December 11, 2011.[15]
On August fourteen, 2017 Evanescence posted to their official website the Synthesis Live autumn tour pre-sale announcement too as giving fans notification that all ticket buyers would be getting a download of their new stunning rework of Bring Me to Life. Evanescence too would be making it available to all fans for digital purchase/download and streaming on August 18, 2017.
Amy interviewed with TheresaRockface on iHeart Radio about Bring Me to Life (Synthesis). She explains that Bring Me to Life was an "instant grab".[16] In the same interview Amy states that

Video Directed past Philip Stölzl
The video is a alive operation/action video and was directed by Philip Stölzl. The video was filmed in Romania in January 2003.[eighteen] Information technology features Amy in a nighttime gown and barefoot, in her room, inside a tall edifice in the city at nighttime. The residuum of the band, and Paul McCoy, are playing on a higher flooring of the building. She climbs out of the window of her room and begins to climb the edifice, passing many windows while venturing to the window that featured the room with the ring and McCoy. Right earlier the bridge of the song featuring a duet with both McCoy and Lee, Lee ends up falling off the building but managing to hang on to the ledge that she was standing on. McCoy pulls open the window and tries to save her, but can't, and Amy falls off the building. At the very cease of the video, nosotros run into Lee back in bed again: it was all a nightmare.
